Roman Forum

The ruin has always intrigued me especially in the context of photography; I see the ruin as a sublime manifestation of the human spirit made nude by time and nature. I began by photographing the Roman ruins by night, in order to highlight a final vanishing point in some future time. These elegant almost phallic structures sometimes bearing the feminine lentil as emblems of the struggle of the human endeavor to rise above the ground, while eventually being subsumed through the gentle passing of time back into earth. For me the ruin is wrapped in the human spirit, it speaks so gently of the essence of the dreams, and the drama involved in its initial construction.
