Arsenale Venice
[ID: V041]
The Arsenale of Venice was the background of its maritime achievements. Today the Biennale of Venice is housed in the old warehouses surrounding the inner docklands; one can still see, what were then the largest cranes in the world used to careen their ships for various repairs. The old cranes stand now as silent reminders of this great maritime republic rusting a patina of time, and standing as modern sculptures to a previous era.
